Taking care of your teeth and keeping them healthy is part of our preventive dentistry at Hollywood Perfect Smile. This helps to avoid cavities, gum disease, enamel wear, and more. Daily brushing and dental cleanings with us also aid in maintaining optimal oral health. These practices are designed to ensure that your teeth are clean, strong, and white.

Important aspects of preventive dentistry such as brushing your teeth daily with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, and eating a balanced diet all contribute to preventing you from developing dental problems later on. Oral Surgery

Several factors may require the need for oral surgery performed by our experienced dentists at Hollywood Perfect Smile. Impacted teeth such as wisdom teeth are the last set of teeth to develop. Sometimes these teeth emerge from the gum line and the jaw is large enough to allow room for them. More often, one or more of these third molars fails to emerge in proper alignment or fails to fully emerge through the gum line and becomes entrapped or "impacted" between the jawbone and the gum tissue.

Impacted wisdom teeth can result in swelling, pain, and infection of the gum tissue surrounding the wisdom teeth. Dental implants are another option for tooth loss due to an accident or infection or as an alternative to bridges and dentures. The implants are implants are tooth root substitutes that are surgically anchored in place in the jawbone and act to stabilize the artificial teeth to which they are attached.

Root Canals

Once upon a time, if you had a tooth with a diseased nerve, you’d probably lose that tooth. Today, with a special dental procedure called root canal therapy, you can save that tooth. Inside each tooth is the pulp which provides nutrients and nerves to the tooth, it runs like a thread down through the root. When the pulp is diseased or injured, the pulp tissue dies. If you don’t remove it, your tooth could get infected, and you could lose it. After the dentist removes the pulp, the root canal is cleaned and sealed off to protect it. Then a crown is placed over the tooth to help make it stronger.

As a member of the Hollywood Perfect Smile family, you won’t have to be referred out to some specialty practice for your treatment. We will be able to do your root canal right here in the comfort and convenience of our comprehensive facility. Most of the time, it is a relatively simple procedure with little or no discomfort. Best of all, it can save your tooth and your smile!

Cracked Filling or Tooth

Our smiles are built to last. In fact, tooth enamel — the outer surface of our teeth — is the hardest substance in the human body, even stronger than our bones. That tooth enamel can withstand a lot of wear and tear. But as we live longer, and expose our teeth to stresses like clenching, grinding or chewing on hard objects, we can put our smiles at risk. If you think you have a cracked tooth, it’s important to come see us as soon as possible.

To fix the problem, we have to determine the location and severity of the crack. Therefore, the first step in deciding the best course of action is to take an X-ray. The best scenario is that a simple filling is all that is needed to repair the damaged area. However, if the crack is too deep or large, then a root canal, a crown, or an extraction might be necessary. We will recommend the best course of treatment for repairing the tooth and getting you out of pain the same day.

Gum Care

If you have been told you have “periodontal disease” (gum disease), you’re not alone. Nearly four out of five adults in the U.S. currently have some form of the disease. The main cause of gum disease is plaque, but other factors affect the health of your gums, including age, smoking/tobacco use, genetics, stress, medications, poor nutrition and more.

Gum diseases range from simple gum inflammation—called gingivitis—to serious disease that results in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth—called periodontitis. Whether your gum disease is stopped, slowed, or gets worse depends a great deal on how well you care for your teeth and gums every day, from this point forward.

When gingivitis is not treated, it can advance to periodontitis, which means there is inflammation around the tooth. In periodontitis, gums pull away from the teeth and form gaps, called pockets, that become infected. The body’s immune system fights the bacteria as the plaque spreads and grows below the gum line. Bacterial toxins and the body’s natural response to infection start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. If not treated, the bones, gums, and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed and the teeth may eventually have to be removed.

Bi-Annual Cleaning

Did you know that keeping your mouth healthy can help prevent heart disease, control diabetes and promote healthy pregnancies?

It’s true. Without routine dental care, plaque builds up on your teeth and gums and can lead to gum disease, making you more vulnerable to heart disease, clogged arteries and stroke. Gum disease and resulting infections can also cause blood sugar levels to rise, making it more difficult to control your diabetes. Additionally, studies have shown that pregnant women with gum disease may be seven times more likely to deliver prematurely.

These facts say a mouthful, but the bottom line is that good dental care is imperative to overall wellness. There’s simply no question that a healthy smile can lead to a long, healthy life and we are committed to helping you keep a PERFECT SMILE for a lifetime.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Once your dentist determines that you are a good candidate for dental implants, you will have 1 of 2 types: endosteal (in the bone) or subperiosteal (on the bone). Your periodontist and dentist will consult with you to determine where and how your implant should be placed. Depending on your specific condition and the type of implant chosen, your periodontist will create a treatment plan tailored to meet your needs.

Dental implants are like your own teeth and will require the same care. After treatment, your periodontist will work closely with you and your dentist to develop the best care plan for you. Periodic follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor your implant, teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy.
